Family are great, in fact they are major contributors to making progress. The kind of family kind of family you are born into co-determines your progress.
What family did you come from?, what family where you born into?
A lot of you will answer that by saying, am from a well to do family and the likes.
Is that really all to it. NO! The spirituality level of the family you were born into should be the response.
God says I will visit the sins of the father onto the third and fourth generation of those who hate me and show mercy to a thousand generations that love and KEEP MY COMMANDMENT.
Some sins were committed by our parents and by our parents parent,and so on, and into such lineage we are born into ignorant of what has been done before our existence. A tree does not just stand it has a root and that root holds it firmly. Family holds us in a bond and this goes a long way.As a child grows I will advice he looks deep into his family and relate it to his life. What am I doing that has been done? What steps am i making that has been taken before? What are the consequences of the actions I am performing, was it not the same dad and mom did that left them so? But only by his Grace can one self check is life and see the mistakes made by parents that he wants to avoid. If born into a Christian family such vice of sinful act may not be seen but if other wise it will be evident enough. A fruit does not fall far from its tree. If ones parents sins are forgiven because they came into the light of christ that does not guarantee your own freedom because the wrath still stands. if your parents love and obey commandment, you should also love and obey. it's by this act one can evade the wrath of God from family cause.
Loving and obeying can't be achieved by mere will. One need to be born again genuinely and resolutely stand on not going back to the old ways. The earlier one accept Christ the faster will his progress in life come.
Prayer
Ask God to restructure your foundation, your root.
Pray that he removes from your life all that is slowing your progress
Ask him to remove that which will be an antagonist to your progress
And ask for the grace to love and obey his commandment.
Without salvation our works on earth is fruitless labour.
