TO SHIRLEY
If you see tomorrow stand on
The street in praise of my name,
Don't be jealous or envious of me
I have written myself on the pages
Of history through hardwork and pain,
I stood when love cares no more,
I crawled when all were walking
Many have tell my tales of misfortunes
With a watery mouth of hatred on me,
If you see tomorrow in praise of me
Remember, the mat was rolled yesterday.
When the street rings out my name
And the birds sings ma praise
Do not be jealous nor envious
For i have waged war with poverty and won
I stood toe to toe with hatred and smit misfortune
Trapped sadness and banished complain.
All this i did just to live with my love,
Ma eternal love,
Who will build my home for me and cherish ma children
All this i did for affluence and fame.
