With just a day to finish the season, Suarez could equalize or beat record numbers. In the entire history of La Liga, only four players have reached 38 goals in a season: Messi, Cristiano, Hugo Sanchez and Zarra. These last two scored 38 goals in La Liga and were not beaten until Messi and Cristiano arrived. The historic record is held by Messi: 50 goals in the 2011/12 season.
As for Hugo Sanchez, the Mexican scored 38 goals in the 1989-90 campaign. Zarra also reached this number in the 1950-51 season, but the merit is that he did it in 30 games. Suarez, now 37, can beat these records against Granada and also score the goal that gives the club its 24th Liga in history.
