Luis Suárez wins top goalscoring prizes

The Uruguayan’s 40 goals throughout the current
campaign earns him the Pichichi and European
Golden Shoe

Luis Suárez’s hat-trick on the final day of the league
season confirmed his status not only as La Liga’s
top scorer but of Europe too.
The Uruguayan entered a rich vein of form in the
season run-in, hitting 14 goals in the last five games
to put himself at the summit of the goal scoring
charts both at home and on the continent.
His may have saved his best form until the very end
but the 29-year-old has been at it throughout the
campaign. At the start of the season, he scored in
seven consecutive matches before going onto break
the tallies of legends Maradona, Romario and
Ronaldo.
Suárez’s brace at the Santiago Bernabeu in that
famous 4-0 win, his back-to-back four-goal hauls
against Deportivo and Sporting and his hat-tricks
against Athletic, Eibar, Celta and Granada showed
just what a lethal striker he is.
European Golden Shoe
With his relentless hunger for goals, Suárez has
reached an incredible 40 goals in the league, a total
which hands him the two biggest goal scoring prizes
at stake: the Pichichi and the European Golden
Shoe.
Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have
achieved the same feat. The Real Madrid forward
finishes runner-up behind the Uruguayan with 35
goals, while Messi comes in third with 26.
Suárez now has two Golden Shoes to his name, after
his incredible season at Liverpool in 2013/14.
