He is the best on the planet, he deserves it,' says
team mate Neymar on the fifth Ballon d'Or for the
Barça number 10
Leo Messi was visibly emotional
as went up on stage at the
Kongresshaus in Zurich to collect his fifth Ballon d’Or ,
the only man to have achieved such a feat: “It’s
incredible to have won a fifth. That is a lot more than I
imagined when I was little.” The Barça number 10 was
one of the architects of one of the best years in the
Club’s history, winning the League, Champions League,
Copa del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup and the World Club
Cup.
The Argentine was humble as always, thanking others
for his success: “Without my team mates this would
not have been possible.” He added: “I dedicate it to my
team, my family and all the people who love me and
follow me around the world.” The Barça number 10
also had words of encouragement for his team mate
Luis Suárez : “He also deserved to be here. Above all
for the year he had on an individual level and because
he was very important for us. I am sure he will be here
in the future because he is an extraordinary player and
let’s hope all three of us can be here.”
Neymar praise for his fellow striker
The Brazilian came in third in the voting and had
nothing but praise for Leo Messi: “For me he is
amazing. Leo is the best on the planet, he deserves it
and he is our superstar.” The Barça number 11
revealed that he would keep working hard to “win it
one day”, adding that he hope next year the three
finalists for the FIFA Ballon d’Or would be the ‘trident’
because this year they “deserved it.”
For president Bartomeu team spirit key
The FC Barcelona president was also proud of his team
achievements at the FIFA Ballon d’Or awards. “The
most important thing is the effort, the sacrifice and
that allows people to enjoy it. The performance as a
team is important but when a player stands out so
much, you have to admire it.” For Bartomeu, Messi
“represents the effort of the whole Club. He shows
once again that he is at the peak of football and I am
sure he is already thinking about his next challenge.”
