The Argentine superstar and Barcelona
playmaker has won the 2015 Golden Ball
in the FIFA Gala on Monday with 41.33%
of the votes. After two straight wins by
Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi reclaims the
award, which he has now won five times
in the last seven years.
With amazing 52 goals and 26 assists in
61 games for club and country in 2015,
Messi won five trophies and was joint
top scorer and best player in the
Champions League, won by the
Blaugrana. He also reached the final in
the South American Cup with Argentina.
Messi said of winning the award: "It's a
very special moment for me. It's
incredible that it's my fifth. It's much
more than I dreamed of as a kid."
Neymar Jr., the other Barcelona player in
the final three, finished third in voting
behind Ronaldo, perhaps the only
controversy regarding this year's award.
There's nothing to dispute about the
winner. It's Lionel Messi's world. We're
lucky to live in it.
Congratulations, Messi!
